Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time. With Heart Life CPR's AED and CPR training, you can learn when – and how – to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Our CPR/AED courses are developed and taught by experts with decades of combined experience – and deliver simple-to-use techniques and information that can help you save a life. Training is available via our award-winning in person classes at our convenient locations across Eastern, Connecticut and through our innovative blended Simulation Learning, which combines online coursework with an in-person skills session, so you can learn your way and on your schedule.
Heart Life CPR delivers best-in-class training. With instructors who have the latest science-backed information, as well as the knowledge and skills needed to teach you how to save a life – no matter what your learning style may be – we can help you receive AED certification, as well as the confidence to provide care when it's needed most.
Being able to provide help to anyone at any time is a powerful thing. That's why, at the Heart Life CPR’s AED classes are designed to teach you how to use an automated external defibrillator on both kids and adults. This way, you can provide care - no matter where you are or who the "patient" may be. Unfortunately, unless you take actions to retain your skills, you're likely to forget how and when to use an AED. So, to help you stay prepared we offer online refresher materials that allow you to test your skills as often as you'd like. We also provide you with access to a printable list of the basic steps for using an AED that you can keep at your desk, in your first aid kit, and more - and review them at any time.
What You Learn
When you understand how CPR and AED can be used simultaneously, you'll gain the ability to help those in need. Through our AED certification classes you'll learn how to respond to specific situations, which will help you care for people in crisis as they wait for medical professionals to arrive. This gives them the best opportunity for a positive outcome – and gives you the opportunity to change someone's life for the better.
What We Cover

AED CERTIFICATION CLASSES AND TRAINING
Heart Life CPR in Norwich, CT is a leader for providing AED certification classes and training to become certified or recertified in AED. We take pride in providing our students with the life-saving instructions needed to respond in the event of an emergency. With a mission to deliver exceptional AED training, our certification classes are led by expert instructors to receive the training you need for effective AED response.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CPR CERTIFICATION
AED devices help save lives, and those who become AED-certified may prove to be the difference between life or death.
If a person suffers sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), the heart suddenly stops beating. When this happens, blood no longer flows to the brain and other essential organs. And if SCA goes unaddressed, a victim may die within minutes.
Ultimately, AED's empower individuals of all ages and skill levels to become life-savers. AED training teaches men, women and children how to provide life-saving support in SCA emergencies and other life-threatening situations. That way, AED-certified individuals possess the skills and confidence they need to administer critical assistance in a wide range of emergencies.
HOW TO GET YOUR CPR CERTIFICATION
When attending classes at one of our locations, students benefit from small class sizes in a comfortable environment. Or, we can accommodate your needs to receive training in your home or business by giving us a call. We’re able to work with small groups in your home and larger groups at places of business, making it simple to certify your entire organization in the proper use of AED.
AED TRAINING COURSES
Heart Life CPR offers quick access to register for AED training by either registering online or calling our office. Through our courses, students learn how to properly respond to cardiac and respiratory distress situations. This includes the knowledge and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
In our stress-free and supportive environment, students learn how to properly assess patients and clear airways to perform the necessary steps to CPR / AED. You’ll achieve the AED certification you need to meet recommended guidelines for both children and adults through our quick training.
You’ll be given your certification card once you’ve successfully completed our course requirements. Your AED certification card is provided the same day that you finish your class and will remain valid for two years.
Type of First Aid Courses
Because we recognize that people learn differently, we deliver AED classes in a variety of ways. This allows you to stay up to date on the latest techniques your way. You can choose the type of class you want based on your scheduling needs and/or your learning style. We currently offer two types of classes, including:
In Person: Led by knowledgeable instructors, our in-person courses combine lecture with hands-on skills sessions. Perfect for those who learn best in a traditional classroom setting, our in-person classes give you ample time to ask questions and become comfortable with the latest techniques.
Blended Learning: Featuring award-winning simulation learning, our blended learning programs combine self-paced, interactive instruction and in-person skills sessions. Blended Learning courses allow you to learn on your schedule, then demonstrate your skills to a certified instructor.
Why Get Certified
The AED training and certification process takes just a few hours to complete, but can help you deliver the care that someone needs while waiting for medical professionals to arrive.
When you successfully complete any of our in-person or blended learning courses, you'll receive a two-year certification, as well as access to refreshers that can help you maintain your skills throughout your certification period.
AED recertification classes allow you to renew your skills, learn the latest techniques and can help keep your memory fresh – so that during times of need, you're ready to respond. Designed specifically for those with credentials that are valid but nearing their expiration, our AED renewal courses are delivered in less time than our standard AED classes, yet allow you to maintain your certification for an additional two years.
How Renewal Works
To renew your AED certification, you can choose to take an in-person class at our facility or register for a blended Simulation Learning course, which allows you to study online, then complete a hands-on skills session in person.
Like many new skills, AED takes practice. But if you aren't able to exercise your skills regularly, they're easy to lose. In fact, according to the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, first aid skill retention declines within a few months of initial training – and continues to decline as time goes by. In addition, the council found that less than half of course participants can pass a skills test one year after training.
In order to help keep your skills fresh between your initial certification and your AED renewal period, we've developed refresher materials, which include the latest information, as well as interactive activities, like quizzes, games, and videos, that you can complete on your schedule.
For optimal knowledge and skill retention, we recommend accessing our free AED refresher materials every three months.
Recertification & Continuing Education
Along with our AED certification program, we also offer recertification courses for current certificate holders, as well as continuing education credits for first responders, nurses, teachers, social workers and others. Our teams are currently approved to award CEUs in Preparedness and Health and Safety Services courses, including CPR/First Aid/AED, wilderness and remote first aid, BLS training and more.
