Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Taking a ACLS Class

When you enroll in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training from Heart Life CPR, you'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to provide advanced care to your community. Designed specifically for healthcare providers and first responders, our courses will not only help you learn to assess, recognize and provide high-quality care to adult patients experiencing life-threatening medical emergencies, including shock, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and respiratory events, but will also streamline your resuscitation training, improve skills retention, and better serve patients.

The ACLS training curriculum is scientifically equivalent to other courses, including all standard scientific learning objectives necessary for professional certification, including rhythm interpretation, electrical interventions and pharmacologic knowledge. In addition, through the use of interactive scenarios, they will also challenge your critical-thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills, which can help you respond on scene with ease and confidence, and ultimately help you better serve your community.

When a patient is suffering through a cardiac medical crisis, the set of techniques known as Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a crucial tool healthcare professionals must employ to have a chance of saving the imperiled life. It draws on a wide range of technical knowledge and is appropriate only to those who are deeply experienced in patient care. For those who are qualified, however, it can mean the difference between life and death for a person in critical need. As such, it’s often mandatory for advanced medical personnel who will have occasion to treat patients during serious medical emergencies. ACLS assumes access to advanced medical equipment and drugs are only available to licensed professionals.

Upon successful completion of the ACLS course, you'll receive a two-year certification.

We are credentialed by:

  • The American Heart Association

  • The American Red Cross

  • American Safety and Health Institute

What You Learn

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) class has been designed specifically for healthcare providers and first responders – and offers ways to help streamline your training, improve your skill retention and help you better serve your patients.

By building on your Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge, our scientifically equivalent and educationally superior training emphasizes providing high-quality patient care by integrating rhythm interpretation, electrical interventions, and pharmacologic knowledge with critical thinking, problem-solving, and in-person psychomotor skills practice to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Throughout the ACLS course, you'll learn advanced life support assessment, as well as how to best manage respiratory emergencies, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocols for acute arrhythmias, cardiac arrest (including post-cardiac arrest care), acute coronary syndromes and acute stroke within or outside of a medical facility setting.

What We Cover

The ACLS Class covers:

  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

  • Airway Management

  • ACLS Pharmacology

ACLS certification provides clinical and treatment guidelines for healthcare professionals. These guidelines have been shown to help sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), stroke and other emergency victims get the best results possible.

Furthermore, ACLS certification represents more than just a traditional certification. ACLS training empowers healthcare professionals with preparation for real emergencies that they may face daily. As such, an ACLS class teaches healthcare personnel the skills they need to help reduce the loss of life in a variety of critical scenarios.

There are many reasons for healthcare professionals to obtain ACLS certification, including:

  • Professional Instruction: Our instructors currently work in the field and come face to face with the same emergencies that are being taught in class. They can provide real life insight into these situations.

  • Top of the Line Equipment: Our training facilities have real life mega codes rooms where patients can perform and practice all the necessary skills in a comfortable environment.

  • Career Opportunity: With ACLS certification, you can put yourself ahead of the rest of your peers and it can make you more marketable as a candidate.

Heart Life CPR goes above and beyond to provide first-rate ACLS certification classes every day. By doing so, we ensure healthcare professionals can reap the benefits of ACLS training for an extended period of time.

Heart Life CPR offers ACLS certification to qualified healthcare providers in the Tri State: Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts area, with multiple training locations available. The course is offered in two formats: one that is administered entirely in person at our Heart Life CPR office or at your location, and a second format that includes a substantial online portion and then a short skills session at our Heart Life CPR office.  The blended learning option with the online portion and skills session is designed to accommodate the busy schedules of many of our students. The online portion can be completed at the student’s convenience at their home and then they only need to schedule a short amount of time to come into our office to perform their skills.

Muscle memory is an important function to integrate with our students’ existing skill sets, so adequate resources are always accorded to all students, including a one-to-one manikin-to-student ratio. All equipment students use to practice represents the most current technology. Given the critical importance of the training, Heart Life CPR is proud to offer the highest possible caliber ACLS course.

We also offer ACLS certification renewal – a shorter version of the ACLS course for students who are currently certified and need to freshen up their skills.  We also offer courses that can be taught on site at your home or business to better meet your needs. ACLS Renewal & Recertification

Have you ever been present when the 911 call is placed for a life threatening emergency?  In those types of crises, knowing basic life support skills can save the victim’s life.  However, there are many times when BLS certification  is simply not enough.  Relying on someone trained with specialized skills to take life support one step further can mean the difference between life and death.  Fortunately, this training is available – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for those who require a higher skill level for emergent care.

In New London County, Heart Life CPR offers Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and ACLS renewal courses.  If you are currently an ACLS provider, our ACLS renewal course is designed specifically for you. Our course material adheres to the current American Heart Association guidelines and all of the ACLS renewal classes are taught by providers who are not only specialized, but have currently experience in delivering the care that they teach.  Heart Life CPR’s class schedules for the ACLS renewal classes are geared toward the working professional’s busy work schedule.  Whether you are an individual seeking an ACLS renewal class or are a hospital education coordinator with multiple class candidates, our course availability offers the flexibility to fit into your schedule.

As a healthcare provider having previously taken ACLS, students will find that Heart Life CPR’s ACLS renewal classes are not the typical class program previously experienced.  Interactive instruction with hands-on guidance allows learning to solidify while practicing skill sets required in this advanced certification.  While Heart Life CPR follows the AHA, ARC and ASHI course content, their instructors’ ‘real world’ experience brings a refreshing present day feel to ACLS certification.  Heart Life CPR understands that many candidates who register for ACLS recertification come from a variety of backgrounds. Some candidates work day-to-day in an environment where the employment of Advanced Cardiac Life Support skills is common.  Others seeking ACLS recertification may not currently use these skills but are required to have to competency for employment requisites. Perhaps some health care professionals have been ACLS providers who have never faced the necessity to put these skills into practice.  The instructors at Heart Life CPR understand this and make the effort to gear the delivery of ACLS recertification instruction to the specific needs of each and every candidate.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support recertification is a key element in the ongoing goal of quality health care delivery for all healthcare professionals.  ACLS recertification ensures that these health care providers stay current on all of the essential skills, including the theory behind the skill sets, in order to provide care in today’s complex health care environment.

Consider the individual circumstances surrounding a provider’s requirement for ACLS certification – perhaps you are employed in a busy emergency department at your local hospital or you are a cardio thoracic intensive care RN, or maybe you are a first responder Paramedic providing life saving care in New London County.  The skill and theory taught in Advanced Cardiac Life Support recertification is essential to each of these roles. A current certification in ACLS, especially an American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety and Health Institute approved course, speaks to the commitment you value in providing excellent care.

Heart Life CPR recognizes this and wants to support you in your quest for excellence in care.  Call us today at 860-222-7002 to schedule your course – we’re available and ready to help you on the next step toward becoming a more specialized healthcare provider.

What is the difference between ACLS and BLS?

There are a number of differences between ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support). While both courses cover essential live-saving skills, the major difference can be seen in their names: ACLS is “advanced”, whereas BLS is “basic”. BLS covers the fundamentals of life-saving techniques like CPR and AED usage. No background knowledge or certification is required to take a BLS course, and enrollees often include childcare professionals, coaches, supervisors, and more.

ACLS builds on what BLS teaches and goes into more detail on each subject. ACLS will also cover additional subjects including how to administer different medications in an emergency, as well as the use of IVs, ECGs, intubation materials, and emergency-scenario algorithms. ACLS is intended for healthcare professionals. To enroll, prospective students must have completed a BLS course and have basic medical knowledge.

Who can become ACLS certified? How do I get ACLS certified?

Anyone can become ACLS certified — but as we mentioned above, prospective ACLS course enrollees must first complete a BLS course or demonstrate working medical knowledge. To become ACLS certified, you must enroll in and complete and ACLS course from an accredited ACLS course provider.

How long is an ACLS certification good for?

Upon completing an ACLS training course accredited by either the American Heart Association, The American Red Cross or American Safety and Health Institute, you will receive a certification card good for 2 years. Those who have completed an initial ACLS certification course will only need to complete an ACLS renewal / update course to extend their certifications. ACLS renewals cover the same topics as ACLS certification courses but are typically shorter and less expensive. You may also re-take an ACLS certification course if you prefer.
