Taking a CPR/AED Class for Professionals

Heart Life CPR’s CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers program is designed to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over.

This course teaches those with a duty to respond how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. For many professional rescuers, there is a job-related duty to act in an emergency. You may be called on to provide care, and your actions are often critical and may determine whether a seriously injured or ill victim survives.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE TRAINING

Heart Life CPR’s CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers program is designed to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. The technical content within the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers training course is consistent with the most current science and treatment recommendations from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) 2015 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular CareScience with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR), the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care, and the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council (SAC), a panel of nationally recognized experts in fields that include emergency medicine, emergency medical services (EMS), nursing, occupational health, sports medicine, school and public health, aquatics, emergency preparedness and disaster mobilization.

For Professional Rescuers of all stripes, Advanced CPR/AED training is a necessity. Since the few moments following a medical crisis are so critical – often meaning the difference between life and death – anyone charged with a duty to respond in caring for patients must be prepared in the event of a life-threatening emergency.

CPR/AED FOR PROFESSIONAL RESCUERS COURSE OFFERINGS

Heart Life CPR is proud to offer multiple ways of completing industry-leading CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification courses fully approved and accredited by the American Red Cross. Based in Eastern Connecticut, we offer on-site courses at multiple locations throughout the tri state area taught by current practitioners in the emergency medical field, as well as blended learning programs that can be partially completed online.

For newly licensed Professional Rescuers, we offer Advanced CPR/AED certification classes rigorously in line with ARC guidelines for immediate, on-site treatment of life-threatening medical emergencies. This includes training in adult, child, and infant CPR; conscious and unconscious choking protocols for all ages; Automated External Defibrillator (AED) operation; the employment of breathing barriers and bag valve masks; two-rescuer CPR instruction; cardiopulmonary emergency protocol; and special resuscitation situations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will achieve ARC's CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification possessing the skills they need to save lives in an emergency situation.

With the specific needs of our students in mind, we also offer this advanced CPR/AED certification classes in two other forms: one designed for those already deeply familiar with the protocols and simply looking to have CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer renewal classes and one blended learning program that takes into account the often hectic schedules of working professionals. In this course, equivalent in rigor to the entirely on-site version, students are given the greater portion of the instruction online. After completing the coursework through distance-learning, students are simply asked to come in to one of our office location for a 1 hour skills test. Once this is completed, students are issued their CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certifications.

Classroom

In Person: Delivered in a traditional classroom setting conveniently located at our office in Downtown Norwich, CT. Our in-person CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers courses combine lecture with hands-on skills sessions. The course culminates with testing, which allows participants to receive a two-year certification.

Blended Learning

Blended Learning: Featuring award-winning simulation learning, our blended learning programs combine self-paced, interactive instruction and in-person skills sessions. Blended Learning courses allow you to learn on your schedule, then demonstrate your skills to a certified instructor.

Digital certificates can be viewed, printed or shared online and can be accessed anytime through your Red Cross Account. Each certificate includes a unique ID and a QR code which meets employment requirements and allows employers to easily confirm your certificate is valid. Class participants and employers can visit redcross.org/confirm and enter the ID found on the digital certificate (or scan the QR code with a standard QR reader using a smart device) to access a copy of the valid certificate with student training information.

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Recertification

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers recertification courses allow you to update your skills, refresh your memory and extend your certification by two years. Designed for those whose credentials are still valid (or within 30 days of expiring), our abbreviated CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers renewal courses make it possible to avoid a lapse in certification so you can stay certified and stay on the job.

 

How Renewal Works

To renew your CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification, you can register for a review course, which is an abbreviated version of the instructor-led course that allows experienced participants to obtain their certification in an expediated format. To be eligible to participate in the review course, you must possess an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification (current or expired by no more than 30 days)
